Opportunities for Schools

Bradlaugh Fields is an environmental education resource within walking distance of the classroom. Education sessions focus on science and geography areas of the National Curriculum, but also encompass maths, English, art, physical education and citizenship.

We have a number of 2-hour educational sessions designed for Key Stages 1 & 2 led by an experienced environmental educator. These include - Discovering Habitats, Pond Dipping, and Sensory Walks or we can design an education session specifically for the needs of your students and the National Curriculum.

The Bradlaugh Fields Education Officer can come to your school to work with teachers and students on projects related to Bradlaugh Fields.

Habitats: the diversity of habitats is an ideal introduction as it includes wetlands, ponds, streams, and different types of grasslands, hedgerows and trees.

Plants & Animals: Bradlaugh Fields is home to many different types of birds, mammals and land and water invertebrates. The Scrub Field, because of the many wild flowers that grow there, is one of the most important wildlife sites in Northampton.

Local History & Geography: Its fascinating history from Roman quarries to urban park via farmland, golf course and potential housing estate makes for an ideal historical and geographical case study.

The Barn: which is the focus of activities, was converted from an old farm barn into the community and education facility it is today. There is a large central room that is used as the main classroom, a kitchen, toilets and a dining area. Immediately around the Barn are ponds, a sensory garden and picnic area.
